Frequently Asked Questions
Ok... what's the catch?
Seriously, no catch. We're just trying to do our small part to give back to our community.
So who gets paid then? Who's actually making money off this?
No one. Literally no one gets paid through the pub or ballroom right now. When the pub is up and running, we will hire a few full time employees to help run and operate the business, but no one will receive any "salary" or "stipend" or payment of any kind simply because we came up with this idea, or are helping direct and guide the vision. This is a profit-generating machine for, and only for, the charities we support.
So how do you all make money?
Everyone who is a part of the Board of the Oregon Public House has other full time jobs. We are all volunteers helping to make this vision a reality, and will continue as volunteers after we open.
How can I believe that?
Our books are public. Simply ask to see them, and we'll be glad to share it. Trust is such a priority for us, that we believe nothing should be kept secret.
How can my charity get supported by The Oregon Public House?
We have an application and vetting process. Charities are rotated around twice a year. If you would like an application, please email us and request it.
How can I be involved?
In a number of ways…and it will only keep growing. Currently, we need people who are willing to come, usually once a month, and help with our build out and remodeling project. Second, we are still raising money for our vision. Very close to being completed, but with no debt as a goal, costs can continue to pile up.
Are you really the "first of your kind"?
Yes. Perhaps others have created a similar way of giving back, but our model of choosing your own charity, and giving back through the social and communal nature of a Pub is definitely the first of its kind.
What makes you think you can actually make money for charities?
Well, we are currently making money. Unfortunately, right now, all if it is going towards the build out. But, with the Ballroom that we manage, we are able to run significantly in the black as a successful business, while actually paying rent on a vacant Pub. And if we can simply run a moderately successful restaurant, we'll be able to generate a considerable amount of money for the charities that we're partnered with.
